Does it hurt?

No. The weld happens on the chain itself, not on your skin — you won't feel the spark. A small protective barrier is used between the chain and your skin during the weld, so the whole thing is comfortable and over in moments.

Is it really permanent?

It's meant to stay on day and night — through showers, swimming, and sleep — which is part of the charm. But it's not impossible to remove: if you ever need to take it off, you can simply snip it at the weld with small scissors, and many studios (including ours) can re-weld it for you afterward.
